San Francisco Bay Area Clif Bar Recall – Concerns About Possible Listeria Food Poisoning

Three types of Clif bars were announced for recall earlier this month due to potential Listeria contamination, as certain varieties of the nutrition bars were found to contain sunflower seeds linked to manufacturers subject to a shutdown and recall from an outbreak of the bacteria. As a San Francisco food poisoning attorney, I applaud Clif Bar’s quick action and hope that they will stand behind their products if any consumers are made ill because of any Listeria in any of the ingredients in the Clif Bars.

Clif Bar, a health company based in Emeryville California, has not received reports of any illness linked to the consumption of their bars, but have voluntarily recalled three of their nutrition bars as a safety precaution. I think this kind of fast action should be the example for any food manufacturer who believe that their product may contain any food poisoning bacteria.

The three recalled flavors are as follows:

– CLIF BAR Nuts & Seeds energy bar (08JUN16-21JAN17)

– CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix energy bar (05JUN16-24MAR17)

– CLIF Mojo Mountain Mix trail mix bar (16JUN16-02FEB17)

According to the FDA:

“Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, [Listeria] can cause miscarraiges and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Clif Bar is requesting that all those who purchased the recalled bars throw them away or return them to the store of purchase for a refund.
