US Safety Agency to ask GM to recall more cars because of potential fire hazard

Comments Off

US Safety Regulators are now considering an expansion of the General Motors recall to include midsize cars.

The expansion would increase the scope of the recall to include the 2012 and 2013 Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal sedans.

GM has currently recalled almost 43,000 cars due to a defective generator control module which stalls the engine, creating a potential fire hazard. The module is a component of GM’s eAssist gas-electric hybrid system.

The recall replaces the module in almost 22,000 cars and tests the remaining 21,000. US Safety Regulators are now looking into replacement of the modules for all cars.

GM is continuing its recall efforts and cooperating in the investigation.

As a personal injury attorney who is greatly concerned with product safety, I see the often devastating results of defective products. Hopefully, GM will get the word out to its customers and will replace the faulty and dangerous modules with safer parts.
