Two drivers were seriously injured earlier this month in connection with a three vehicle collision on Vallecitos Road, Livermore, north of the main entrance to Ruby Hills.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:30am when the driver of a pickup truck side swiped the left rear side of a Honda civic, causing the driver to lose control and slide into oncoming traffic. A Jeep, traveling the opposite direction, struck the civic as it slid.

The accident blocked traffic as far back as Isabel Avenue.

“This was the worst possible time for an accident on Highway 84,” said Sgt. John Hurd, a spokesman with the Livermore Police Department.

There is no “good” time for an accident. As we begin a new year, I hold out hope that we can all be more careful and responsible on the road. 2013 was a terrible year for traffic accidents and injuries in the Bay area and we should all do our part to ensure that we see a safer 2014. Of course, accidents are inevitable, but the fact that the truck driver left the scene of the accident is absolutely terrible. If you are involved in a collision it is your responsibility to stay at the scene and assist police in their investigation of the wreck.

The Livermore Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and search for the driver that fled the scene Anyone with information that could lead to the driver’s identification is encouraged to call Office Traci Rebiejo at 925-580-9665
